Hey people, just posting it here for possible visibility. Ever since the last update of the Xbox beta app on PC (version 1909.1001.9.0) it prompts a Smart Card login, took me a while to figure out what app on my PC was triggering it.
When it tries to read the private key, it is redirected to the smart card to get it, whether one is inserted or not. Before mucking with user certificates, a quick check might be to set up another profile on the computer to see if the issue . If this is only happening in Xbox app then try first resetting it at Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Xbox Live > Advanced Options > Reset. Restart PC, if it persists then go back to same place to Uninstall app. Restart PC, go into Microsoft Store settings > My Library to reinstall the app.
