It's used for either asset tracking or identification- when I purchased my 2016 used, it was a California car, it was probably returned on lease and this may be a way of tracking assets during industry car auctions? Today I was was removing the handicapped placard from the rear view mirror and it was stuck. I pulled a bit and it came off undamaged, but with a 3 1/2" to 4" black strip (looked like electrical tape) attached. I started to install an EZPass at the top center of my windshield, and found a black grid on the windshield behind the rearview mirror. I now learn they are called “visor frits”. I am concerned that they will interfere with the EZPass signals.

I just noticed this small electrical-tape-looking 4" x 3/4" black sticker attached to the back of the rearview mirror (opposite side of the light sensor) So of course I peeled it off. On my AP prepared car the exact spot is high on the right side of the mirror, with a single line of black dots above it.
